My Dental Implants

A dental implant is a screw-shaped artificial tooth root made from titanium which replaces the natural root.

It is designed to fuse with the jaw bone.

Once fused it can serve as an anchor to support new replacement teeth.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants allow the replacement of missing teeth without having to wear removable dentures (sometimes called ‘plates’ or ‘false teeth’) or having to rely on the adjacent teeth for support. Other parts of the mouth then do not have to be covered and adjacent teeth then do not have to be cut down. This makes the replacements feel more natural and comfortable.

How long have implants been around and how successful are they?

Dental implants have been used in their current form since the late 1960s. Most studies show that if the patient and their mouth is healthy, implants are successful approximately 90-95% of the time.

How long do implants last?

If the implant heals properly it can last for several decades, perhaps the rest of your life. The crown on top may need replacement due to wear and tear after several years.
